The Submarine is a naval unit that has varied abilities depending on the version of play. It attacks & defends at 2 and moves 2, although AA50 reduced its defense to 1. Subs can't hit planes in combat and fire first when attacking.

Unit Characteristics

In AAC it had the ability to retreat after combat, which was replaced by submerging in place in AAR. AAR also added the ability to move past enemy ships without firing. First fire and pass through are negated by enemy destroyers. In AAE planes can't attack subs without a destroyers.

AA50 reduced the defense strength of subs by 1. If gave them the ability to submerge before combat and made them immune to air attack. However, destroyers completely negate the ability of subs to submerge, first fire, pass through or avoid air attack.
